It’s fascinating how the U.S. Treasury Agents study counterfeit money. They spend hours studying the real thing — the weight and feel of the paper, the special features like raised printing and holographic images, the font, and typeset. To most people, you can’t tell the difference between these features. But when these agents see a counterfeit, they know it because they know the real dollar bill like the back of their hand.
According to BusinessInsider.com, women’s handbags are the most counterfeited product in America. Counterfeit COACH bags look genuine to the consumer, but can easily be discredited by handbag restorer experts. Raised versus flat imprints on the tag, ribbed versus smooth metal on the hardware, and incorrect serial numbers give this counterfeit away in just moments to the trained eye. These handbag experts, just like the U.S. Treasury Agents, have what we want our kids to have — they know what is true so well that when counterfeit comes along, it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Why is it important for our kids to have this wisdom?
Just like these trained professionals can spot counterfeit money and handbags, children need a clear Biblical worldview to recognize counterfeit messages they encounter in our culture. Any message contrary to God’s Word is counterfeit. Counterfeit acts like invisible UV rays, damaging our children and we don’t even realize it. Something that sounds good can fool us and take us on a path away from Jesus.
The only antidote for what our kids need to prevent them from damaging counterfeit is Jesus. What if our children know God’s Word so well that when an untruth disguised as a truth is presented to them, they can recognize it and flag it right away? Yes, that’s what we want!
It’s our job, as parents, to help our kids know the Father and know His plan of eternal life for us through His Son, Jesus Christ. When they ask us questions, we need to share God’s timeless truth from the Bible which throws them a lifeline of hope. A child who knows God’s truth is a child who has hope. They will be focusing on truth and seeing the real deal instead of counterfeit. And they will grow closer and closer to their Heavenly Father.
The best gift you can give your children as they walk out into the world is a Biblical worldview. It is with this knowledge of the Bible that they can see God in every situation, no matter where they are. Remember, the Word of God cuts through all counterfeit.
